Wildfire risk

5th May 2016

THE MET Office has today issued a yellow weather warning, indicating the possibility of an increase in wildfires.

Due to a high pressure system across the UK there is the potential for it to bring dry continental air. It is expected this will last a number of days, reaching level 4 in parts of England (very high) around Monday. This sort of weather has been linked to elevated risks of wildfires.

It is therefore a very important reminder to ensure good practice in all controlled burning and that fire control equipment is in order and also that we are all extra vigilant of the potential for wildfires starting.

Visitors to the moors should be aware that barbeques and camp fires are illegal on open moorland. At this time of year it is more important than ever to make sure cigarettes are extinguished properly and stubs are taken home along with all rubbish.

More detailed information can be found on the Met Office website. It is advised the forecast is checked daily.
