Paws on the Moors

As a dog owner, do you know how to keep your canines happy and safe on the moors, as well as protecting the birds and wildlife?

Click here to view a fun 15 minute cartoon, developed by the Moors for the Future Partnership and supported by The Kennel Club. "Paws on the Moors" follows a puppy called Barney as he learns about the delights and dangers of the moorland environment.

During the breeding season a walk on the moors is not much fun for four-legged friends as a short lead is essential to stop nests being disturbed, young creatures being abandoned, lambs harmed and dogs and their owners being injured by cattle defending their young.

Rather than facing the breeding season restrictions, Barney's friends take their owners for walks where they can run free between March 1st and July 31st. Some moors offer a Dog Welcome Zone or click here for information on woodland walks run by the Forestry Commission.
