The Moorland Association and its members, who care for nearly a million acres of cherished heather moorland are, like the rest of the country, observing the period of national mourning as we reflect on the life of Queen Elizabeth ll.
Her Majesty’s unparalleled devotion to duty, warmth and selfless service to the nation have been an inspiration to the whole of the United Kingdom and around the globe over the past seven decades.
The anecdotes shared over the past few days by those who knew Her Majesty have served as a reminder of the deep affection that the Queen had for rural people throughout the UK, from the gamekeepers who maintained the vigil over her coffin at Balmoral, to people who lined the route as her coffin made the journey south, to all those who will pay their respects in the coming days.
We extend our deepest sympathy to the Royal Family at this very sad time and we give thanks for the extraordinary reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
We also wish His Majesty, King Charles lll a long and happy reign as Sovereign.
Mark Cunliffe-Lister, Chair of the Moorland Association
