We are pleased to report more results from our campaign to overturn Defra’s disastrous ban on winter burns. After a series of media articles like this (with another expected this week), the Conservative Party frontbench have tabled a motion against the ban which should slow down the process.
We have also sent this forensic analysis of the ban and the flawed process behind it to a House of Lords scrutiny committee. Then of course there is our legal action against the Department which we let you know about last week.
Defra’s new ministerial team will be realising that this pressure to withdraw this foolhardy measure will only grow. They will also be having increasing concerns about the quality of the civil service advice that has been given to the previous Secretary of States.
This ban will go, and with it so should the lacklustre officials who have put ideology before science.
