Recent Wildfire Reporting in The Telegraph

Recent media coverage has reported on internal wildfire guidance used by Natural England, including references to staff safety thresholds and the division of responsibility between land managers and fire and rescue services.

For transparency, we note that the existence of this internal guidance first came to light following a Freedom of Information request submitted by the Moorland Association. The information released in response to that request was subsequently published on our website in full.
The Moorland Association makes no comment on the media’s interpretation or characterisation of that guidance. Our longstanding interest is in understanding how wildfire risk is managed across the uplands, particularly where responsibilities are shared between public bodies, land managers and emergency services.
Wildfire risk management involves multiple organisations and is subject to evolving operational, safety and policy considerations. We have consistently sought clarity on how those considerations are addressed within existing regulatory and land-management frameworks.
This note is published for information only and is not intended to comment on or influence the ongoing judicial review proceedings.
