Speak Up for Moorland Management - Time Is Running Out

Laptop

Time is running out to respond to Defra’s consultation on heather and grass burning. The deadline is 25th May, and it’s vital that those who understand the uplands - the people who live, work, and manage this land - make their voices heard.

Defra is considering further restrictions on managed burning. These proposals could have serious consequences for how we care for our moorlands, prevent wildfires, and support wildlife. But unless more people with real-world experience speak up, policy will be shaped by those with little or no connection to the land.

Whether you’re a gamekeeper, landowner, farmer, agent, or someone who works on or near the moor, your perspective matters. You know the practical challenges. You’ve seen the changes over the years. You understand the difference that careful burning, done at the right time and in the right way, can make.

We’ve published a simple step-by-step guide to help you complete the consultation. You can find it here.

It doesn’t take long - and your input could help protect the future of traditional land management.

Please don’t leave it to others. Every response counts. Now is the time to stand up for moorland, its wildlife, and the communities who care for it.

Please follow our advice and complete the consultation before 25th May.
