Update on GL43 and GL45

Updated: Apr 7

Pheasant

If you release pheasants or red legged partridges on their low ground, near protected sites, Defra shared some mixed news on Friday afternoon.

  • General Licence 43 (on or within 500m of a Special Area of Conservation) – will be issued in the next two weeks.

  • General License 45 (on or within 500m of a Special Protection Area) – will not be issued this year due to the high avian influenza risk.

Those impacted will need to apply for an individual licence from Natural England. Further detail is not yet available but, as you might expect, each will be assessed on its merits.
