VIDEO: BBC Breakfast Visits the Peak District Moorlands to Report on Wildfire Risk

Richard Bailey from the Peak District Moorland Group appeared on BBC Breakfast on Friday 11th July to discuss the ongoing wildfire threat on our moorlands.

Here is Richard's Facebook post:

Our post describing an opportunity to discuss wildfire mitigation and moorland wildfires, brought about some interesting comments from our followers - primarily, caution that the BBC would not be impartial and we would be stitched up.

This is perfectly understandable, and the interviews were edited and important sections omitted, but on the whole we were grateful to have had the opportunity to take John McGuire and the BBC Breakfast filming team out onto our iconic moorland, even though we had to conduct a pre-record rather than the original live broadcast, due to satellite connectivity issues, and references to gamekeepers were dropped.

Large scale rewetting projects were discussed, along with its failings, and the NGO Wildfire Risk Index was explained, which is proving to be an accurate tool for a wide range of stakeholders interested in verifying upto date condition in all upland moorland areas of England.

We will always engage in delivering “moor knowledge” whenever we are able.
