Following a tip-off from a farmer of an early Curlew nest, we were able to install a trail camera to monitor the outcome. The Curlew quickly returned to the nest to incubate the four eggs, and all was well for a few days. Unfortunately, a Lesser Black-backed Gull spotted the nest as well and took the eggs.
There are more than 40,000 pairs of these protected large gulls nesting in Bowland, the amount of eggs and chicks they take must be having a massive impact on ground nesting birds.
