The government's decision to ban the burning of vegetation on deep peat is misguided and ignores real concerns over wildfire risks.
To that end the MA is seeking to help its members submit the first 100 licence applications to burn heather. This is bureaucracy gone mad - the worst year ever for wildfires - and now its about to get a lot worse.
Previous well intended but misguided government policies have imposed scars on our uplands - from carpeting them in trees to draining them to supply water for urban areas and improve agriculture. In time this new burning policy will also be seen as complete madness by future generations.
