Its been a busy few days for the keepers from the Yorkshire Dales Moorland Group. National Nest Box Week commenced on 14th February and as in previous years, keepers have been getting all industrious and creative, turning their skilled hands to fabricating and installing nest boxes across their estates.
This is an ongoing rolling programme that includes new boxes being erected and maintenance or replacement of existing boxes positioned in previous seasons. The nest boxes have been making a significant difference for an array of species found on the moorland fringe and in estate woodlands.

The boxes are for a host of species ranging from the familiar tit families to owls and the more elusive pied flycatchers. Keepers have a shared love of birdlife and putting these boxes up in readiness for spring is yet another example of nature delivery by moorland group members.
There's still time to put nest boxes in place so if you're thinking of putting one up now is the ideal time to get them installed. We look forward to seeing which birds take up residence during the breeding season and we will share the images later in the year.
