The dramatic footage is of a snow rescue carried out by local gamekeeper Lewis and farmer Stephen on 27th January in Swaledale.
The gamekeeper discovered both the stranded ambulance and local doctor as they were responding to a 999 emergency call. Quick-thinking Lewis risked himself in the blizzard conditions of Storm Chandra to go and get a tractor with his farming friend Stephen from Askrigg.
With the medical teams isolated high on this precarious moorland road, time was critical and so the keeper/farmer response was potentially life-saving for so many reasons.
This is what Dales life can look like in dire situations. Local knowledge, experience and skills all combining to safeguard rural communities. Well done everyone involved.
